#### Introduction

In the pursuit of sustainability, Mars Incorporated, the [chocolate and confectionery manufacturer](https://www.veoliawatertechnologies.com/en/core-markets/food-beverage), embarked on a mission to enhance the quality of their treats by making their production processes more environmentally friendly.

With their largest factory located in Veghel, Netherlands, Mars sought to convert its [wastewater](https://www.veoliawatertechnologies.com/en/applications/industrial-wastewater-treatment) into a green energy source while significantly reducing its carbon footprint.

Our experts proposed a solution that involved the implementation of [Memthane](https://www.veoliawatertechnologies.com/en/products/memthane)®, an anaerobic digestion wastewater treatment technology that resulted in a 150-ton annual reduction in carbon emissions, more than 10% energy savings, and a 97% reduction in sewer costs.
